Our Instructors
Dr. Jason Winkle is the Founder and Chief Instructor of Martial Concepts and a Human Performance Consultant. He is the CEO for WinkleCorp, a Leadership Development and Coaching company. His Ph.D. is in Leadership and he has been published in the areas of Leadership, Performance, Crisis Leadership, Performance Mindset, Fitness and Performance, Tactics and Strategy, and the Martial Arts.
Dr. Winkle is also the Associate Dean for the College of Nursing, Health, & Human Services at Indiana State University. He has served ISU in many capacities as a faculty member, faculty fellow to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, interim director for the Corrections Education Program, director and coordinator of the martial arts program, academic advisor, and mentor to both students and colleagues. Dr. Winkle has recently taken on a new challenge, as the founder and director for the Center for Leadership Development at Indiana State University.

Prior to coming to Indiana State University, Dr. Winkle was the Director of Combatives for the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He also taught in the Values Education Program at West Point. He is the former President of the International Tactical Officers Training Association and the former Senior Leadership Writer for SWAT Digest.

He travels and consults throughout the United States and Canada. His energy and unique background make him a sought after presenter and consultant. His use of stories, demonstrations, and videos keep participants engaged and entertained, while ensuring that his message is received by the audience.

Dwight Deckard
Dwight is a Senior Instructor in Martial Concepts: Fitness and Fighting Arts. He began his study of Martial Concepts in 1998 under Sifu Ian Haynes and became a private student of Sifu Winkle in 2000. He spent 4 years in law enforcement as a Reserve Deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, attaining the rank of supervisory sergeant. He has studied extensively outside the Martial Concepts system including various styles of Filipino Combat Systems, Silat, Savate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Aikido.

Patrick Kelly
 Mr. Kelly, who started training martial arts in 1980, currently holds the rank of Senior Instructor in Martial Concepts: Fitness and Fighting System, awarded in 1996.

Mr. Kelly also holds a 5th dan black belt rank within the United States Hapkido Federation and was recently re-elected USHF President for a second term.

In 1992, he was appointed the assistant instructor for the Monroe County YMCA and from 1993-1996 he was the Monroe County YMCA Martial Arts Director. While at the YMCA he taught classes in Hapkido, Martial Concepts, Kids Self-defense, and Kids Karate.

He has been instructing martial arts and Self-defense classes at the Indiana University Martial Arts program since 1992. He instructed for the IU Self-Defense Club in 1993-1995 where he served as Vice-President from 1992 to 1993 and continues serving as a safety officer and advisor. He also serves as Faculty Advisor for the Martial Arts Committee in the Dept of Recreational Sports.

From 1993-2006, he provided security and management for two local businesses.

In 2009, he presented a workshop on Martial Arts for Physical Education: Attribute Development and Self-Defense Application at the Physical Education Summer Institute for the Indiana Department of Education.

Mr. Kelly has studied concepts and techniques from several martial art systems including, Jun-fan Kickboxing, Wing Chun Gung Fu, Muay Thai, Savate, Kali/Escrima, Penjak Silat, Shoot-fighting, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Tai Chi, Fencing, Archery and personally subscribes to Sifu Bruce Lee's philosophy of Jeet Kune Do in both his martial arts training and in life.

In what spare time he has, Mr. Kelly enjoys cycling, hiking, reading, and sleeping when the coffee wears off.

Steve Tuttle is the head of the Martial Arts program at Indiana State University in Terre Haute and a Full Instructor in Martial Concepts.
